For Antoine Mutin, photography is as much about emotion as it is about aesthetics. While his creative influences are broad, he often finds himself drawn to the character and imperfections of film. “Today, everything is chasing perfection,” he says. “But I need my work to feel authentic, a little unpredictable — like it has something alive in it.”
Film as a creative ally, not a final touch
Antoine doesn’t use film emulation to recreate the past—he uses it to shape the future of his images. “When I want a more emotional or moody atmosphere, DxO FilmPack is like a creative buddy. It helps me find a direction,” he explains. Rather than a final polish, DxO FilmPack 8 is part of his core editing process, often using it alongside DxO PureRAW to build a look that feels intentional and original. “I use it early in my workflow to explore options and get inspired. It’s a way of making decisions faster, and with more confidence.”

A different kind of film simulation
Antoine wasn’t always sure about DxO FilmPack. “At first, I thought it was just another set of presets with a fancy name,” he recalls. “But when I started testing it on both personal and professional work, I could tell it was deeper—more embedded in the image, not just something sitting on top of it.” That distinction — between simulation and true emulation — makes all the difference. “It doesn’t feel artificial. It feels like it belongs to the image.”

Tools that spark creativity
Among FilmPack’s features, it’s the grain separation and Time Machine that Antoine finds most inspiring. “Being able to choose the grain independently from the film emulation is perfect — it lets me get the exact look I want,” he says. As for Time Machine, it’s not something he uses on every project, but when a specific look is needed, it’s essential. “If I have a visual reference in mind, like the tone of an old film or a particular era, Time Machine helps me get there fast.”
Blending digital freedom with analog soul
Antoine’s move to South Korea marked the beginning of his journey with film photography. “It was easy and affordable to shoot and develop film there, so I finally had the chance to really dive in,” he says. But with rising costs and limited flexibility, the digital-analog balance became important. “I love analog, but FilmPack lets me bring that organic feel into my digital work. I get all the soul of film, with the freedom of shooting as much as I want.”
